Brownie Chocolate Cake
Adapted from cookbook, The Blue Denim Gourmet

Cake
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 sticks (1 cup) butter
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs (beaten)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla

In a large mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, and salt. Set aside.

In a saucepan, melt butter, add cocoa and stir together. Add boiling water, allow mixture to boil for 30 seconds. Remove from heat. Pour over flour mixture, and stir lightly to cool.

In a measuring cup combine buttermilk, beaten eggs, baking soda and vanilla. Stir buttermilk mixture into flour/butter mixture. Pour into a greased and floured 9" x 13" pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.


Frosting
3/4 stick (6T) butter
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
6 tablespoons milk
1 1/2 cups powered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup nuts (chopped)

In a saucepan, melt butter, add cocoa and stir together. Remove from heat. Add the milk, powered sugar, and vanilla. Beat until smooth and creamy. Stir in the pecans. Pour over cake while still hot.
